When the kids are stuck at home with nothing to do, the whinging and moaning doesn’t stop and the hours can drag on and on for both us and the little ones. But sometimes, finding new and exciting ways to keep the youngsters entertained is a challenge in itself. Relaxing spa days, fancy restaurants and sophisticated coffee dates are wasted on our precious bundles of energy. So, if you’re stuck for fun-filled things to do with kids in New Delhi, we’ve rounded up some of our favourite plans and activities that the kiddies will love.
1. Swim and slide at Appu Ghar
New Delhi is home to plenty of amusement parks, and Appu Ghar is one of the city’s longest-running water parks, having first opened back in 1984. To this day, the towering Skyfall is the tallest ride in India, so if your little ones fancy themselves mini daredevils, head straight to the top. There’s also the Crazy River, Typhoon Tunnel, a wave pool and more. And when you need a bit of peace and quiet from away from the kids, the Lazy River lets you cruise on the water at your own pace.

2. Have a day out at a family-friendly museum in New Delhi
Interactive and exciting exhibitions are a great way to keep the kids engaged for hours on end, and luckily for us, New Delhi is full of family-friendly museums that offer tickets for the youngsters at reduced prices.
National Rail Museum in Chanakyapuri is home to a range of locomotives spread out over 11 acres of land. Tickets cost ₹10 for kids between three and twelve years old while an adult ticket will cost you ₹50. Another great choice is Museum of Illusions – a weird and wonderful world where the impossible becomes possible. Things get topsy-turvy in the Upside Down room and there are great family photo ops to be had inside the mind-bending Vortex Tunnel. Kids (3-11 years old) tickets cost ₹550 and adults tickets cost ₹600.

3. Stir creativity at National Bal Bhavan
National Bal Bhavan is a fun-filled institution that caters to the kids. They host weekly activities specially designed to spark imaginations and get the little ones thinking outside the box. From musical extravaganzas that get the kids singing and dancing to artsy activities including painting, clay modelling and weaving, there’s plenty of things for kids to do here. And with a mini zoo, fish aquarium and aviary on site, this place truly has it all. Tickets for children up to 16 years old are free, and adults admission costs ₹20.

4. Attend a Candlelight concert
You’re never too young or too old to enjoy music, which is why Candlelight is a magical experience that can be enjoyed by anyone aged 8 years or older. Gorgeous candlelit tributes to the likes of Coldplay, Ed Sheeran and more are lighting up some of New Delhi’s most remarkable venues, and they make for an enchanting family-friendly plan to enjoy with the little ones.
5. Have a picnic
Sometimes, one of the best things to do with kids in New Delhi is a classic picnic. Take a blanket, your favorite Indian delights and refreshing beverages and head to one of the city’s greenest spots, like Lodhi Garden or Sunder Nursery. For hours of non-stop fun, bring a football or frisbee along for the day (it’s the fool-proof way to tire the kids out).
6. Catch a movie at your favourite cinema
Popcorn at the ready! There are over 50 cinemas in New Delhi screening a host of movies that the kiddies will love, from superhero blockbusters to animated classics and more. If you want the full cinematic experience, Delite Cinema boasts one of North India’s largest DOLBY ATMOS screens. And if you fancy taking the magic of the movies outdoors with the youngsters, Sunset Cinema Club screens films under the stars weekly.

7. Explore Waste to Wonder Dinosaur Park
40 dinosaur models made out of scrap metal call Waste to Wonder Dinosaur Park home. There are plenty of rides and play areas for the kids to scout out, and with sound and light features, the dinos themselves make for a great photo op.
As you explore deeper into the park, you’ll stumble upon the Seven Wonders of the World section. Replicas of the Taj Mahal, Eiffel Tower, Statue of Liberty and more iconic landmarks stand proud, and they’re a great way to introduce the kids to the world’s most culturally-significant spots without leaving New Delhi. For kids between three and 12 years old, the entry fee is ₹25 and for adults, the entry fee is ₹50.
