Today, we have therefore brought to you a list that will help you spend some quality time with your kids and yes, tire them out so that you have the evening to yourself. From museums to freshly manicured gardens to explore, there lies a bucketload of activities. And surprisingly, for free! So, without further ado, we bring you our curated list of the most fun and free things to do with kids in Delhi.
1-5. Have a picnic or play a game of catch at Delhi’s wonderful gardens
With several gardens splattered across the city, a game of catch or even a wholesome picnic featuring packed sandwiches, bottles of OJs and a fun board game might just do the trick.
🌳Garden of Fine Senses: A sensory trip down its pathways, this park boasts gorgeous landscapes with bursts of flowers and glimmering ponds sprinkled every few steps.
🌳Lodhi Garden: Mughal monuments dot this famous park in Delhi. You can lay your blanket under the shades of tall trees here and plan a playful family picnic.
🌳Sunder Nursery: Home to the famous Humayun’s tomb, you can stroll past its beautiful water fountains along the axis of the park. Further, settle down beneath its tree canopies for a wonderful picnic spread.
🌳Nehru Park: This lively park is usually packed with people indulging in several outdoor activities. It remains perfect for playing a game of badminton, or cricket or even just to have a scrumptious picnic.
🌳Millennium Park: A towering Shanti Stupa made of white marble lay in the centre of the park. Filled with picnic tables and tall trees, this park makes for an ideal place to hold some much-needed family time.
6. Take a long walk across the Lodhi art district
One of our favourite free things to do with kids, this beautiful neighbourhood remains saturated with colourful murals by both Indian and international artists. If you are looking to inspire your kids to be more artistically inclined or simply want to let them admire the stunning art, a walk along this district is highly recommended. A culmination of abstract art and portrait murals pack the walls invoking beautiful storytelling.

7-8. Visit some stunning art galleries
A visit to these art galleries with your kids makes for a wonderful afternoon filled with equal parts inspiration and education.
🖼️Kiran Nadar Museum of Art (KNMA): Free to visit, KNMA is a great place to take your kids and let them observe art in all its abundance. The gallery also holds several exhibitions all year round making for an interesting opportunity for the kids to register.
🖼️National Gallery of Modern Art (NGMA): Though free to visit for kids under the age of 18, adults have to pay INR 20 for an admission ticket. The gallery holds over 10,000 works and regularly holds lectures, seminars and stunning exhibitions.
9-11. Explore some free landmarks in Delhi
A beauty to behold, Delhi has some fantastic landmarks perfect to take your kids for an enriching history lesson.
🏛️India Gate: A war memorial, India Gate is probably the most famous landmark in the country. It was built to pay homage to the Indian soldiers who lost their lives fighting in World War 1.
🏛️Qutub Minar: This famous Mosque is a UNESCO World Heritage site that goes back to the 12th century. Qutub Minar holds smidges of both Indian and Islamic architecture with quotes from the Quran inscribed on its walls.
🏛️Lotus Temple: Dedicated to Bahaism- a monotheistic religion founded in Iran- the Lotus Temple is a stunning piece of architecture. Clad with well-manicured gardens, this temple was named the most visited building in 2001 and towers 130 feet.
12. Take your kids to a Lodhi reads session
This silent book reading club is held every Sunday at the Lodhi Gardens at 10 am. You can spend Sunday mornings sprawled across park grounds reading a classic Enid Blyton or Carolyn Keene. Fostering a sense of community this open-to-all club brings an opportunity to instil in kids the value of reading.
