In a world where everyone’s building nightlife venues and aesthetic cafes, Louve New Delhi worked on their evening high-tea service. The new European restaurant on Humayun Road recently introduced an afternoon tea, available daily from 4 PM to 7 PM. With neat-cut sandwiches, miniature desserts and a beautiful chandelier and fountain as the centrepiece, I spent the better half of the three hours just looking around the space.
They offer 3 options with High-Tea. Option 1 includes sweet and savoury options for 2 people with unlimited tea and coffee at 2,499/- (including taxes). The Option 2 is the same as 1 but for 4 people, priced at 2,999/- including taxes. Option 3 includes sweet and savoury options, unlimited tea and coffee for 2 and an additional 2 glasses of wine or sparkling wine at 4,499/- including taxes.
Each option has a veg and non veg choice for their bites. A little heavy on the wallet but the room is worth going for.
Afternoon tea service at Louve New Delhi
We entered at 4 PM, when the sunlight poured through the arched windows and bounced across the marble floors. As the afternoon goes on, the light shifts across the dining room and catches the crystal branches of the chandelier from different angles. It’s a beautiful setting with the perfect tea service for two or four – a mixture of savouries and desserts.
Please note that their bread contains egg. We had the vegetarian Option 1 and here’s everything we tried.
The Mushroom Vol-Au-Vent stood out immediately. The mushrooms were finely chopped and packed with flavour. They were tasty and tangy. The Avocado Crostini was my favourite of the small bites. It delivered on texture more than flavour with its smooth guacamole-like taste. The French Onion Slider took a more comfort-food turn with caramelised onions and a creamy filling. Lastly, the Cucumber and Mint Sandwich was decent. It was a little hard to bite but a good effort, nonetheless.
The desserts were much better. The Lemon Madeleines disappeared first. The Opera Cake had beautiful rich, creamy layers that felt almost tiramisu-like. The Berry Tart, topped with strawberries, raspberries, blueberries and pistachios, offered the perfect amount of crunch. Just make sure you eat it before it gets soggy. The Almond Tea Cake was soft and easy to bite, once again leaning into the comfort food angle.
Now, honestly speaking, I probably won’t remember every item on the beautiful stand. I will remember sitting beneath a crystal chandelier, listening to water ripple through a fountain, watching sunlight move across ivory walls and wondering whether there was any reason to leave before dinner.
What this Parisian setting feels like
Louve New Delhi occupies a sprawling bungalow in Lutyens’ Delhi, though the word “restaurant” doesn’t quite capture what the space feels like. The interiors sit somewhere between a Parisian apartment and a European manor house. Arched windows stretch across the walls offering natural light. Black-and-white marble floors run through the dining room. Sage green accents soften the space, while layers of cream, ivory and white keep everything feeling bright.
Then there’s the chandelier and fountain.
Suspended above the centre of the room, the crystal installation is honestly a work of art. Beneath it sits one of the most beautiful water fountains I have ever seen, which ended up becoming one of my favourite details of the entire experience. The pit-pattering of the circular fountain was the perfect sound to unwind and having casual conversations. If you love the rain, you’re going to love this room.
For an afternoon tea experience, the space and the service is a pretty compelling argument to stay for one more pot.
