1. Lothian Cemetery
Considered to be one of the most haunted cemeteries in the world, Lothian cemetery dates back to the British era. Said to be haunted by the ghost of Sir Nicholas who took his own life out of love for a woman who could not be his, there are accounts of people witnessing fleeting figures and the feeling of being observed. Being a cemetery itself is spine-chilling enough for people to stay away after the sun sets.
2. Delhi Cantonment
A setting for a tragic car accident, Delhi Cantt- a predominately lush area- is set to be haunted by a woman clad in a white saree. Her spirit is said to wander after dark with witnesses catching glimpses of her along the street. There have also been accounts of her asking for lifts from passing cars and if refused, she is said to follow them.
3. Khooni Darwaza
A stage for one of the most violent incidents in history, this architecture dates back to the Mughal era. The gruesome incident of a cold-blooded murder orchestrated by Captain William Hodson of the East India Company of three unarmed Mughal princes in 1857 marks it as a historical horror. People have claimed to see figures on the second floor with strange voices saying Mat Aao (don’t come in).
4. Sanjay Van
A lush stretch of greenery that spans about 10 km reports a calm and gorgeous atmosphere however only during the mornings. Come nightfall there are claims to have heard children laughing, spine-chilling whispers, and cold gusts of wind even on a hot summer day!
5. Khooni Nadi
With terrible battles accounted for here, Khooni Nadi is set to be a ground of vengeful spirits. It is said that people who visit the river never come back as the river pulls them in. Even though the river is not deep enough, there have been incidents of people losing their lives here either by accidents or suicides. To date, none of the bodies have ever been recovered.
6. Chor Minar
Painted with a bloody history, Chor Minar is easily considered a top contender among the most haunted places in Delhi. Alaudin Khilji, as a message to his enemies, beheaded 8,000 Mongol prisoners with their heads hanging on the tower. It was further a place where thieves were beheaded and their heads were hung on protruding spikes for all to see. If they ran out of spikes, their heads would be piled outside the walls. People here have heard crying noises around midnight believed to be of those who were murdered.
7. The Delhi Ridge
A backdrop for many violent sieges, The Ridge has played a setting for many horrific battles and gory murders. Witnesses here have claimed to see the spirit of a British officer with his riffle safeguarding the area. People have also observed their phone signals going bizarre and an inexplicable feeling of someone watching them from the trees.
8. Dwarka Sector 9 Metro Station
The banyan tree close to the station is said to be a haunted ground of a woman who had succumbed to her injuries here. People claim that an invisible force slaps travellers at night and wishes ill fortune on passersbys.
9. Karkardooma Delhi Court
A team of paranormal experts confirmed a supernatural presence in this courtroom, which has been a site for strange activities. From computer lights flickering, drawers opening, and a white figure appearing from the walls, this place has garnered a lot of attention. No wonder people hurry to leave the premises after working hours!
10. Ashok Vihar Flyover
Haunted by a lady who died on the Satyawati rail tracks, there are claims to have seen the same woman running beside your car if you are driving under 40km/hour at 2 am!
